I've tried this several times connecting the cradle to either one of the three USB ports or the serial port. Each time the device was not detected, and each time it said the port was available. There are no drivers for the USB cradle, just as there are no drivers for the USB cable. It is a passive device that just provides a convenient connection. The drivers are for the AXIM itself. You can plug in the cradle anytime, it will not be recognized since there is nothing to recognize.
